pies for mumbai

We've raised about $3,100 for the marathon project (primary health care centre in saharanpur) so far. This sunday night we'll be having a house concert with luke & eleanor & friends providing live jazz and folk music. This is Noreen filling up the kitchen with pies that will be served to, hopefully, around 50 to 60 people! If you're in steinbach around 9pm sunday night (jan 7th) drop in for great coffee from Ten Thousand Villages, good music and good conversation (you provide that).

more press...CBC Radio Manitoba

Here's a recording of a cbc radio manitoba (noon hour show) interview about the india trip.

press coverage

The Carillon (Steinbach) turned our press release into a "sports" cover story! How embarassing is that?! I mean, neither Luke or I have ever run a half-marathon before and we'll likely drag our sorry selves across the finish line as the they are folding up the tent. Oh well, at least Villages gets some press and, as they say, there's no such thing as bad press.

what's going on?

This blog is about the adventures of my 19 year old son and I as we travel with Ten Thousand Villages Canada on a learning tour to India and run in the Mumbai Marathon. Yhe combination of running and travelling to Mumbai made me reflect on my prairie roots and how different a world India is going to be for luke and me. that brought to mind the classic Guess Who tune "Running Back to Saskatoon", for some reason.

I been hangin' around gas stations
I been learnin' 'bout tires
I been talkin' to grease monkeys
I been workin' on cars

Moose Jaw saw a few, Moosomin too
Runnin' back to Saskatoon
Red Deer, Terrace and a Medicine Hat
Sing another prairie tune
Sing another prairie tune

I been hangin' around libraries
I been learnin' 'bout books

Sing another prairie tune

I been hangin' around hospitals
I been learnin' 'bout dyin'
I been talkin' to heart doctors
I been workin' on disease

Sing another prairie tune
